Sheriff Tennis Cup – 2011 took place in Tiraspol
Sheriff Tennis Cup – 2011 took place in Tiraspol. The competition was organized by Federation of Tennis of Moldova in common with the “Sheriff” sports club. Such tournament was held in the transnistrean capital for the first time. 60 tennis players from Tiraspol, Bender and Kishinev went on courts. Prize money were played among girls and youths in 3 age categories, and also among men.

In men category the final duel was the most spectacular. Vadim Prunich from Tiraspol and Alexander Belibov from Kishinev wrestled for the main prize. Our sportsman won first set and lost second one. In third deciding set the sportsman from Tiraspol was more successful than his rival. The organizers of the Sheriff Tennis Cup, except the competitive part of the tournament, prepared exhibition performances or tennis on wheelchairs part and mini-tournament for the youngest admirers of this game.
According to the President of Federation of Tennis of Moldova, Marina Tauber, the tournament showed that the future of this sport in Tiraspol is optimistic. Especially as conditions allow sportsmen to reach serious results. Four courts with hard cover allow holding the highest level competitions. The nearest plans of the Federation of Tennis are to organize another one big tournament – for this time among professionals.
